I absolutely had to post this.

Robert Schwartzman, lead singer of the band Rooney, just released the video for his newest single “Second Chances.” The video also features his brother, the lovely Jason Schwartzman of Coconut Records. Apparently Robert’s given up the mainstream journey (Rooney opening up for the Jonas Brothers) and is releasing his new solo album independently. He’s literally mailing out CDs from his own home and in his own handwriting. Awesome! I’ve grown up loving Rooney and this song is a great branch off from them.

Check out more from Robert at robertschwartzman.com!

Deep Sea Diver - You Go Running

It’s weird, sometimes I think certain songs were created solely for the purpose of me playing them on The Limit Does Not Exist. It’s songs like this one, from Deep Sea Diver, that just fit in so well with my playlists that it kind of freaks me out in a way. Does that make sense? Probably not…

SO YEAH ANYWAYZ, Deep Sea Diver are from Seattle, and their debut album History Speaks came out in early 2012. For more info on the band check out their website!

Harlan - Dancing on the Bed

For fans of: Architecture in Helsinki, Hot Chip, Miami Horror

Harlan is an up-and-coming dude from LA with way too much funk for his own good. Who knew that repeating the phrase “dancing on the bed” could make for such a good song? I’m definitely ready to see what else his debut EP Native Son has in store for us.

If you’re diggin it, you can download this track for free on his website!

Oh Land - Sun of a Gun (Yuksek Remix)

So I’m sitting here studying for finals, when this song pops up on shuffle. It’s on Oh Land’s self-titled EP that came out a while back. Yuksek’s awesome, and this song is too good for me to not share it with you real quick. Enjoy the FREE DOWNLOAD from her Soundcloud. Cool beans man! Good luck with finals everyone :]

The Limit Does Not Exist: Update

Alright kiddos, I’ve got some more bad news. Looks like I won’t be on the air for Spring quarter either. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING MAYA YOU’RE RUING OUR LIVES!” I know, I know. Unfortunately, I’ve been way too busy with school and work lately to be able to commit to my DJ duties.

But one thing is absolutely 100% for sure, I’LL BE BACK THIS SUMMER! I’ll have plenty of time on my hands to hold up The Limit Does Not Exist so I’ll let you know when the time comes.

Meanwhile, check back here periodically and I’ll try to keep updating with fun music I find!

Chairlift - Sidewalk Safari

For fans of: Hospitality, Tennis, Summer Camp

Thanks to the lovely and ever-expanding KUCI library, this week I got ahold of Chairlift’s recently released album Something. This jam, which I played every now and then on the show last quarter, gets stuck in my head way too often for me to not share it with you guys.

I first heard it on Mark Ronson’s (ridiculously awesome) radio show Authenitc Sh-t on East Village Radio, and was instantly hooked on the quirky-chill combo. Check out more from Chairlift on their Soundcloud!

As long as Adele’s losing the weight in a healthy way and for the right reasons, I fully support her transformation. Unless this alters her voice - in that case, someone get her a pizza.

Coco Morier - Explosions

For fans of: Lykke Li, Sky Ferreira, Oh Land

Sometimes you know a song is good just by hearing the very first beats. This is a perfect example. Nicole Morier, an ex-member of Electrocute, and also ex-writer for Britney Spears, is branching off into solo work in 2012. Her 5-song debut EP is available for listening on Soundcloud, and the songs are all really catchy. I’m suuuper excited to hear what she comes out with in the future!

Youngblood Hawke - Rootless

For fans of: Young the Giant, Free Energy, Capital Cities

So last week I went to go see Wallpaper. at the El Rey, and it was an AWESOME show. One of the most noteable parts however, was the opening act Youngblood Hawke. These guys (+ 1 girl!) were seriously really good. Some of their songs mixed indie rock and hip hop together SO WELL with their concentration on drums. They even did a cover of Kanye West’s Love Lockdown that IMO sounded better than the original song.

I’m not sure if they played this particular song at the show, but nevertheless it’s ridiculously catchy and easily sounds like it could hold its own on radio if you ask me.

Sheesh Maya, what’s up with Winter Quarter?

Hmm, don’t know if I ever mentioned it on here, but I’m taking this quarter off from being an awesome DJ. It’s such a touch job that sometimes your awesome-ness becomes too much to handle and you have to, well, do your homework and study more.

But, in lieu of my auditory absence, I’m going to try as hard as possible to keep up with the show blog and let you know when I find some good stuff. The Limit Does Not Exist will be back for spring quarter so until then, keep on checking in for more updates!

Dude [underrated album] by [underrated band] was actually kinda really good because [dumb reason]. It doesn’t matter if they are [generally accepted perception of the band], what should matter is good music. And they achieved it.
